RBI stops printing Rs 2000 note
Focus on smaller denominations including Rs 200
NEW DELHI, Jul 26 (Agencies): The Reserve Bank of India stopped printing the Rs 2,000 currency note close to five months ago and is currently focusing on printing notes of smaller denominations, including the to-be-introduced Rs 200 note. An agency report says that the RBI is not planning on printing the Rs 2,000 note any further this year. The government had brought in the Rs 2,000 note immediately after demonetisation that scrapped notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. However, since there was not enough liquidity in the market to provide change for the Rs 2,000 note, the printing of more notes of smaller denominations is planned....

`115,435 kms NHs sanctioned in 35 states, UTs’
NEW DELHI, Jul 25: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed Lok Sabha that total 115,435 kilometres National Highways have been sanctioned in all 35 states and Union Territories in the country. In a reply of unstarred question raised by Shimla Member Parliament Virender Kashyap in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan informed Lok Sabha that out of total 115,435 kilometres, 10,668 kilometres national highways have been sanctioned in the states of Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Jammu Kashmir. Reliance's Mukesh Ambani announces Jio Smartphone for 'zero' rupees
MUMBAI, July 21 (Agencies): RIL supreme Mukesh Ambani today announced the launch of JioPhone, an "intelligent" phone, offering life-long free voice calls bundled with 4G data streaming at an "effective price of zero". Ambani, who had taken the telecom sector by surprise with free voice calls and data last year, announced the next leap at the company's 40th shareholder meeting today. The phone, targeted at 50 crore feature phone users in the country, will be available for pre-booking from August 24 on payment of a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500. ‘5pc tax levied on airfare and any private tour package’
SRINAGAR, Jul 20: The government Thursday said that no pilgrimage has been taxed under the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) but the tax will be levied on airfares. A senior official in the government’s finance department said that under the GST 5 % tax is being levied on airfares. “This is not tax on Hajj, Umrah or any other pilgrimage, but it is a general tax on airfare as per the GST,” the official told. “All airfares will be taxed by 5 % except the Business class tickets,” he said. An official in the Commercial Tax department told that under GST no tax has been specifically imposed on any pilgrimage but on the packages of private tour operators. “The 5 % tax is levied on private tour operators whether they take the tour is for pilgrimage or holidaying,” he said. Govt serious in recovery of JK Banks loans, NPA
‘As of March 2016, its gross NPAs soared to Rs 4,368.62 crore’
SRINAGAR, July 20: As the Jammu and Kashmir Bank is grappling with the recovery of crores of loans from defaulters and Non Performing Assets, the government said that it is making serious efforts to recover loans from the defaulters. The JK Bank has bad loans and NPAs in crores which has impacted its financial working. To recover these loans, the Bank formed a team. However, sources said that the Bank’s team has not made any significant headway to recover these loans. Sources said that if the back does not recover the loans, then the bank will sink in financial crisis and RBI might completely take it over.
