Stricter agitation after Eid, says Masrat
Geelani issues fresh protest calender

 KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Sep 2: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) today issued a fresh protest calendar with an appeal to people to celebrate Eid with simplicity in view of the ongoing killings.
He issued the calendar days after he had put five conditions to government of India for reviewing the protest programme and threatened to intensify the protests if the conditions were not accepted immediately. Today Masrat Alam, acting general secretary of Hurriyat (G), reiterated the threat saying stricter programme will be announced after Eid if the conditions were not met by New Delhi.
As per fresh calendar there will be no strike on September 5. On the day, he said, people will make necessary purchase for Shab-e-Qadar while rich would distribute Zakat and Sadaqa among the poor.
“On September 6 and 7, there would be complete strike and people are urged to stage protests from morning to Asar (late afternoon) prayers,” Geelani said.
On September 8, also there will be a strike and the day would be observed in solidarity with the detainees. “Special prayers in favour of the detainees would be offered on the day while people are urged to visit families of the detainees,” the Hurriyat (G) chairman said.
There will be no strike on September 9, 10 and 11 on the eve of the Eid-ul-Fitr, he said. Geelani made a plea that Eid should be celebrated with simplicity as a mark of respect for the martyrs. He also called for protests after Eid prayers. Geelani asked the people not to forget those who lost their near and dear ones.
“On September 12, there would be complete strike and people are urged to stage peaceful protests from morning to Assar prayers,” he said.
On September 13, there is again a general strike and a call for march to UN military observers’ office at Sonawar for handing over a memorandum for UN secretary general.
On September 14, there would be strike upto 4 PM, while the remaining part of the day has been kept for making necessary purchasing.
“There would be complete strike on September 15 and people are urged to stage protests after offering Zuhr and Assar prayers,” he added.
Geelani also reiterated that there is no change in the already announced program upto September 4. As part of the program, there will be no strike tomorrow, but there is a strike on September 4.
It may be recalled here that government of India has not yet responded to Geelani’s five conditions. The conditions include declaring of Kashmir as an international dispute by government of India, demilitarisation, a commitment by prime minister to put to an end the killings in Kashmir and other authorities and to discipline his forces, revocation of draconian laws and release of Kashmiris from jails including Afzal Guru before Eid.
Meanwhile, Masrat Alam today said strict protest programme will be given after Eid if the state and central governments did not implement Geelani’s five conditions.
In a statement to a local news, KNS, he said to get education is every body’s wish. “ But what is the importance of the education in a place where there is  dark  future and where students like Tufail Matto are being killed,” Masrat said. He added that from even from 1990 to 1995 when the situation was bad in Kashmir still large number of youth became doctors and engineers.” That is why we have full faith in students and they will get more marks than what they used to during normal times. We are not living in palaces but among common people that is why we say that masses are not tired and they connected with the ongoing movement from grass roots level,” the general secretary of Hurriyat (G) said.
He viewed that people are supporting the movement and during relaxation the children go to schools and tuition centres have also become operational. Masrat blamed Delhi public support for strengthening Indian interests here. Government is using some verses from holy Quran in newspapers but why is it forgetting the rest 6665 verses which teach to raise voice against suppression and not to support suppression. “They must see the Quranic verses and see where they stand. When we implement Quranic verses we are being dubbed as hard liners,” Masrat said.
He alleged that some civil society members and NGOs are trying to sabotage the ongoing movement through their “give and take” tactics. "We want to warn such elements and those associated with them are asked to disassociate themselves as their proximity is strengthening Indian interests,” the Hurriyat (G) leader said.
Masrat said his party Muslim League is in touch with Geelani and that there is no scope for differences over his protest programmes. He appealed the youth not to commit excesses against common people while implementing the programmes and warned National Conference (NC) leaders and workers not to damage the collective cause of Kashmiris otherwise people will not forget them.
