SRINAGAR, Apr 7: In what could be described as sorry state of affairs, patients undergoing treatment for dreaded Coronavirus at SKIMS, Soura, have accused the hospital administration of violating ‘code of behaviour’ by huddling them into single ward thereby putting their lives at grave risk.
On the other hand suspected cases serving quarantine at different isolation centres in Srinagar have expressed same views alleging that people with no signs of Corona-Virus (asymptomatic) have been mixed together with those suspected to have contracted deadly virus (symptomatic).
It may be in place to mention that Kashmir valley has witnessed steep rise in COVID-19 positive cases over the past few days. Total number of positive cases has claimed to 114 with 03 deaths in Jammu and Kashmir.
While as the administration claimed to have put in place in all requisite paraphernalia to combat Novel Corona-Virus, patients undergoing treatment for deadly disease at valleys major tertiary care hospital Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) are up in arms against the hospital administration for treating them as cattle’s.
If sources are to be believed at least 20 COVID-19 patients have been in kept common ward at SKIMS besides them to make rather forced to share common washroom and beds.
“I am worried about safety of my son who undergoes treatment at SKIMS, there is no isolation ward where COVID-19 patients are treated rather they have been kept in common ward. I was crestfallen to know that 22 patients have been kept in single ward and are treated like animals. This is not done,” said a women from Srinagar whose son after detected positive for COVID-19 was admitted at SKIMS Soura.
She claimed that her son through a message informed his family that 22 confirmed patients of Corona-Virus have been forced to share common ward at SKIMS. She also alleged that these patients use common washrooms which pose serious threat to their lives.
The lady claimed that doctors at SKIMS fearing getting exposed to virus do not visit or inquire patients who were confirmed positive for Corona-Virus “highly unfortunate, my son along with others have been left on the mercy of god. It seems doctors are much keen on becoming celebrities rather saving COIVID-19 patients virtually battling for life at SKIMS”
On Monday an entrepreneur who identified himself as Zubair Ahmad Wani taking to his tweeter handle highlighted authoritarian approach at SKIMS alleging that 22 patients which include a female share common washroom and eats cold food.
“I have been tested positive for COVID-19 few days back, Alhamdulillah I am doing well. We are 22 patients including a female sharing common washroom, eating cold food without proper bedding and no official dares to visit us SKIMS,” tweeted COVID-19 positive tagging J&K Government Spokesman, Rohit Kansal and DC Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdary.
The tweet by the patient is making rounds on all social media sites including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Tweeter since Monday with netizens mincing no words to criticize the government for leaving COVID-19 patents high and dry.
On the other hand, people serving quarantine at several localities alleged that two persons have been kept in single room sharing common washrooms with extremely poor bedding arrangements.
“We don’t have any heating facility here, nor our bed sheets are changed, we share common bed and washroom in this particular isolation centre. We cannot say who amongst the two may be COVID-19 positive, this is the responsibility of administration to inquire as how people are treated at quarantine care facilities,” said a suspect who was kept in quarantine at NIIT Srinagar.
