NEW DELHI, July 28: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil (54), an associate professor of English in Delhi University, from Gautam Buddha Nagar near here as an alleged accused and part of the banned CPI(Maoist) outfit in the Bhima Koregaon Elgar Parishad case of inciting people in Pune on December 31, 2017 to resort to violence.
While the Pune police filed charge-sheets on November 15, 2018 and 21.02.2019, the NIA had taken over the investigation on January 24 this year and arrested accused Anand Teltumbde, a Goa professor, and Delhi-based journalist activist Gautam Navlakha on April 14.
A NIA spokesman said further investigations led to detection that Hany Babu was propagating Naxal activities and Maoist ideology and was a co-conspirator with other arrested accused. He said Hany Babu, son of Kunhu Mahammed, will be produced before the NIA Special Court in Mumbai on Wednesday and his policy custody will be sought for custodial interrogation while further investigations will continue.
