NEW DELHI, Sep 8: The Defence Ministry on Tuesday refuted China's new charge of the Indian Army entering Chinese territory and resorting to firing, dubbing the contrary statement by Chinese Western Theatre Command as "an attempt to mislead their domestic and international audience."
"At no stage has the Indian Army transgressed across the LAC (Line of Actual Control) nor resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing. Instead, it is the PLA (Peoples Liberation Army of China) that has been blatantly violating agreements and carrying out aggressive manoeuvres," says a statement by the Defence Ministry.
"In the instant case on September 7, it were the PL troops who were attempting to close in with one of our forward positions along the LAC and when dissuaded by own troops, PLA troops fired few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimidate," the statement stresses.
It goes on to assert that "despite the grave provocation, our own troops exercised great restraint and behaved in a mature and responsible manner." It says India remains committed to disengagement and de-escalating the situation on the LAC, but China continues to undertake provocative activities to escalate even while engagement at military, diplomatic and political level is in progress.
Committed to maintain peace and tranquility, the Indian Army is also determined to protect national integrity and sovereignty at all costs, the defence ministry added.
