Police registers case against CRPF
Beating of drivers at Pahalgam

SRINAGAR, July 1 : Police has registered an FIR against CRPF men for allegedly beating the drivers and smashing their vehicles at Chandanwari- Pahalgam yesterday.
Besides the CRPF man allegedly responsible for creating the trouble has been placed under suspension and investigations set into motion by the top officials of the CRPF.
The CRPF men yesterday allegedly beat up and injured at least six drivers at Chandanwari without any provocation. They also smashed atleast 65 vehicles parked near the spot. The incident triggered massive protests and shutdown in the town. Following the protests the top
police officials reached the spot and assured the protestors of action against the erring CRPF men.
Sources said that police today lodged an FIR against CRPF for beating drivers and damaging their vehicles without any provocation.
"Yes we have lodged FIR with regard to the incident," SHO Pahalgam, Tariq Ahmad told Kashmir Times.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said
that a CRPF man who is the main accused has been placed under
suspension and an enquiry has been initiated into the matter. "A
commandant of the CRPF posted at Chandanwari is investigating the
matter," DIG said.
On being asked why only one personnel was suspended he said, "The
suspended CRPF man is the main accused and the names of the others
involved will be known during the investigations." He also said that
the whole CRPF company has been shifted from the area. "Besides
the investigations being set into motion we have shifted the whole
company from the spot and the new company has been moved to there,"
DIG added.
