Less than 10% infected in hospitals

NEW DELHI, Oct 21: India continues to cross several significant milestones in its fight against Covid-19, with less than 10% of total 76.51 lakh infected still in hospitals on Wednesday and the recovery rate improving to 88.63% with 61,775 patients discharged in the past 24 hours as against the new infections touching 54,000.
There were 717 deaths in 24 hours raising the overall death toll to 1,15,914, raising the fatalities per million population a notch to 84. There are still 7.40 lakh active cases of patients in hospitals, which is 8,448 less than the previous day while the recoveries totalled 67.95 lakh, with 61,775 recovering in 24 hours.
As many as 9.72 crore have been tested for the Coronavirus, 10.84 lakh of them in 24 hours.
Maharashtra still tops with 213 deaths in 24 hours, followed by 66 in Karnataka, 61 in West Bengal, 50 in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh and 41 in Delhi.
The WHO showed 11.30 lakh deaths and 4.10 crore total cases of the dreaded disease worldwide. In terms of the spread of the virus, India is still second with a gap of 8.71 lakh vis-a-vis the United States' 85.20 lakh. The gap increased because of a spurt of infections in the US.
