Family members ransack Shifa hospital after woman’s death

Police resorted to tear gas shelling and Lathi charge to disperse the protestors

SRINAGAR, Oct 21: A woman Patient namely Shazada W/O Hilal Ahmad Sheikh R/O Dander Kha Lakhshimanpora Batamoloo was admitted to Shifa hospital to remove the stone from Gall Bladder which had slipped into bile duct.
According to the hospital management, “the stone was removed but the patient developed hypotension due to which she died of cardiac around 4 o clock when she was put on support system in Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, a report of CNS said.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased alleged that she died due to negligence of the hospital and they protested against the Shifa Hospital, management and vandalised what came in their way. They damaged the equipment as well as window panels.
However, management while refuting the allegations said that stone was removed by ECRP method not by Surgery and they added that they had clarified it to their family members about the mortality rate of such procedures.
The intensity of the protests was so high that police swung into action and used Lathi charge and tear gas shells to disperse the protestors only after that the situation was normalised.
