NEW DELHI, Jan 10: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed as a "publicity stunt" a petition by a Karnataka lawyer to use the virgin coconut oil to "dissolve" the Covid-19 virus and sought directions to the Centre to take action against China deliberately spreading the virus as a biological weapon.

A Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M M Sundresh refused to hear it, saying the petition was only for publicity and urged the media not to oblige the publicity seeker. The petitioner pleaded that he has suggested the remedy only to provide respite to the common people in the country from the Covid-19 situation.

The Court said: "We can't allow every person who thinks of some solution to the virus to come under Article 32 and file a petition. Nothins has prevented him fro make suggestions to the appropriate authority. We do believe that he is here to get a name in the Press and so we request the Press not to oblige."

On his claim that China is deliberately spreading Covid-19 as a bilogical weapon and the court should issue some order to the government, the court said: "It is for the government to take action."

"Is it the court's job to see what is the international ramification, whether China is committing genocide or not? What kind of petition is this?.... It seems you wanted to file a petition just to appear before this court; nothing else," the Bench reprimanded the lawyer dismissing his pleadings.
