| | Murder after rape heinous | | | Dear Editor, The Justice Verma Commission report should not be the last word as far as changes in criminal law are concerned. The attempt to differentiate murder after rape and murder otherwise has no logic. Murder after rape is more cruel and well thought out than murder in the other occasions. Murder should not be separated in this fashion so much so that there should not be any laxity in the matter of punishment. Justice delayed is justice denied and quick disposal of cases in courts are the only deterrant from committing crime. Crime is crime whether the victim is man or woman. Crime has no sex difference and it should be dealt with irrespective of sex. Hence murder after rape should be considered as rarest of rare crime demanding death punishment. Time limit is a must and judges and advocates should not be allowed to indefinitely prolong the cases of such grievous nature. —M.C.George, Bangalore. |
