| | Ex-DC’s speedy entry into NC | | | SRINAGAR, Feb 1: It took less than 24 hours after his retirement for a former bureaucrat to join National Conference (NC). Showkat Ahmed Mir, reached superannuation yesterday and joined the ruling party today with a promise by the party leadership to give him a “top position in view of his speedy switch over.” Showkat retired as deputy commissioner Ganderbal. Welcoming him into the party fold the provincial president of NC, Nasir Aslam Wani said his party is attracting talent from all sections of society including honest and dedicated officers. This augurs well for the politics of the state, Wani said. “All the people are impressed by the leadership qualities of Omar Abdullah and from young to old; from social activist to retired officers everyone wants to be a part of the NC to strengthen the hands of our leadership,” he said. “As an officer he has been an asset and we are sure now as a party man he will prove to be a great political activist,” said Nasir adding, “He will be given a very important assignment in the party shortly.” Nasir stated that NC is the only party which in form of the autonomy has a viable solution to the Kashmir problem. “We have the courage to address employment, develop the state on modern lines, and redress the grievances of the people unlike our adversaries who are a bunch of liars and hoodwink people with emotive slogans,” said Nasir. |
