| | Delhi govt, power discoms cheating people: Arvind Kejriwal | | | New Delhi, Feb 1 (Agencies): After taking on political leaders and corporate big-wigs, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Friday exposed the alleged nexus between Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government and private power distribution companies. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that power tariff should be half of what it is now. When Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) found that power firms earned profits of Rs 3,577 crores and not loss of Rs 635 cr as was being projected to increase tariff, Anna Hazare’s former aide said former DERC chairman Brijendra Singh then tried to reduce tariff. However, electricity companies "went running" to Sheila Dikshit and the Delhi CM then stopped DERC from reducing power tariffs in 2010. Kejriwal further alleged that the electricity distribution costs had reduced but prices were still high in the national capital. Calling PD Sudhakar an 'agent' of electricity companies, Kejriwal asked how come all circles of Anil Ambani’s power company in Delhi suddenly went into loss when Sudhakar took over as DERC chairman. Sudhakar, while heading the DERC, raised electricity prices by 22 percent within a year of taking charge, the AAP leader added. He also demanded that a case of cheating be filed against Anil Ambani. Both the Congress and the BJP had a copy of the DERC order, but both parties hushed it up, Kejriwal further alleged. He also sought a CAG audit of the electricity firms. Sheila Dikshit is not allowing a CAG audit into the finances of these firms, he alleged. Threatening to launch a massive agitation against the power tariff hike, he announced that the Aam Admi Party will meet people in all 51 Assembly areas in the state and request them to not pay the electricity bills if the government doesn’t reduce the price. |
