| | Demonstration held: Woman ‘set’ afire by in-laws in Budgam | | | SRINAGAR, Feb 2: A protest demonstration was held today against alleged setting on fire of a woman by her husband and in-laws at Ichgam-Budgam. The 30-year old Tasleema, mother of two, is battling for life in SMHS hospital here. The demonstrators alleged that her husband and in-laws allegedly set her on fire at their residence on January 27. Police has registered a case and arrested the husband of Tasleema. Large number of people including women from Chattergam reached Press Enclave here today and held strong protest demonstrations. They demanded stern action against the accused. Giving details, they said Tasleema, daughter of Hyder Dar of Chattergam was married to Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Rather of Ichgam some years back. Her husband and in-laws had allegedly sprinkled petrol on the woman after tying her hands and feet with ropes. They said Tasleema received serious burn injuries and is in a critical condition in SMHS hospital. “During the night of January 27, her husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law tied her hands and set her on fire. Locals took her to Budgam hospital from where she was referred to the city hospital”, said the woman’s uncle Muhammd Akbar Rather. Tasleema’s brother Iqbal said the victim’s sister-in-law, Maryam, and mother-in-law Fatima were teasing her for a long time. “On Sunday they attacked her in a bid to kill her and today she is in a critical condition in SMHS hospital,” he added. Police said they are investigating the case. “We have arrested her husband after registration of a case,” he added. |
