| | Torch procession by JKLF to seek mortal remains of Maqbool Butt | | | SRINAGAR, Feb 2: A torch procession was taken out by JKLF here this evening in support of its demand for return of mortal remains of its founder chairman Mohammad Maqbool Butt. The party leaders and supporters also staged a protest sit. Led by acting chairman JKLF, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, those in the procession resolved to carry forward their campaign for getting back the mortal remains of Butt. Addressing the gathering Bashir said, “The path of struggle and sacrifices adopted by Butt sahib is our way. We are the torch bearers of these sacrifices and struggle and will keep our struggle on till the achievement of the goal.” He added that the harsh court verdicts against Kashmiris are judicial torture policy of India. “Despite all these undemocratic tactics by India, Kashmiris will continue the freedom struggle,” JKLF acting chairman said. He paid rich tributes to Butt for laying down his life for “freedom” and not making compromise. Bashir described as illegal and undemocratic the hanging of Butt.” After hanging him, his body was buried in Tihar jail premises. Kashmiris for last three decades have been demanding handing over of his mortal remains so that they can be buried in Islamic way,” he said. Bashir called for a complete shut down on February 11 on the death anniversary of Butt. Giving details of the 10-day programme Bashir said on February 8, a protest march will be taken out from Maqbool Manzil Maisuma. Besides this programmes will be held at every district headquarter. Expressing serious concern over the plight of prisoners in jails, Bhat said today’s programme is also aimed at highlighting the deteriorating condition of prisoners languishing in jails and also to protest against recent court verdicts against Kashmiris. |
