| | AFSPA revocation beyond Omar’s reach: Mehbooba | | ‘We are hopeful of govt formation’ | | SRINAGAR, Feb 2: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, today said that getting the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) revoked from the state is beyond the reach of the chief minister, Omar Abdullah. She also hoped that her party will form the next government saying people are fed up with the present regime and want change.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a rally at Aishmuqam, Mehbooba said, “Omar Abdullah by beating the drum of revocation of AFSPA from the state for last two years is only trying to befool the people. The reality is that revoking the law is beyond his reach. He is the CM who could not even keep his promise of getting the cases against
thousands of youth withdrawn.”
Mehbooba said that thousands of youth are being made to rot in different jails in the state on different charges.
“I want to tell chief minister to keep his promise and get the cases against the youth withdrawn first and then beat the drum of withdrawal of the AFSPA,” PDP president said.
In reply to a question, Mehbooba said the future of the PDP seems bright in coming elections as the people want change. “People are totally fed with the present incompetent and corrupt regime. They know the NC government has only promoted corruption and want change. So our future seems bright as the mood of the people is concerned. We are hopeful of the formation of the government.”
Welcoming the Justice Verma commission report, Mehbooba said that every party PDP leader including Muft Mohammad Sayeed welcomes the recommendations made in the report. “The Verma commission has made good recommendations in its report and should be welcomed by one and all,” she said.
Accusing the government of shielding the bureaucrats and top rung corrupt officials Mehbooba said, “Many fake appointment scams surfaced during the NC regime. Though the investigations were initiated but the officers found involved were never punished. Instead of being punished for making thousands of fake appointments at the cost of the state exchequer the officers were promoted.” |
