Alto car falls into Chenab

RAMBAN, Sept 8: Two siblings were feared to have drowned while their parents sustained serious injuries when an Alto car, in which they were travelling, skidded off the road at National highway 1A, about 200 feet deep down into river Chenab near Mehar Ramban on Sunday.

The car was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the mishap took place.

Official sources stated that an Alto bearing registration number JK02AE-6946 skidded off the road at National Highway IA about 200 feet deep down into river Chenab at about 1.30 PM.

In the mishap, the son and daughter of one Karan Singh were reported to be missing along with ill-fated Alto car, while Singh and his wife Satwant Singh, resident of Sector 6, Model Town Jammu were seriously injured.

Red Cross unit Ramban (QRG) and police party Ramban reached the place of accident at 1:40 PM and started rescue operation.

Seriously injured Singh and his wife were rescued but their daughter Hardeep Kour and son Hardev Singh could not be traced. The Alto car was also missing.

The family was going to attend marriage of their son at Baramulla in Kashmir. Both the injured were shifted to District Hospital Ramban where after immediate medical aid they were further shifted to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced treatment.
