Omar govt a non performing liablity: PDP

R S PURA, Sept 8: Seeking support of the people to set up a new system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that present government headed by Omar Abdullah has become a non performing liablity on the people.

Addressing series of public meetings at R S Pura and Bishnah assembly segments in connection with the campaign of the party, PDP Lok Sabha candidate from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Yash Pal Sharma said that despite running a coalition government in the State, both Congress and National Conference have divergent views on important issues. He said that it was all due to the lack of consenus between two coaliton partners that functioning of the government has been virtually stalled.

Calling upon people to teach a lesson to the coalition candidates in the coming Lok Sabha elections, Sharma sought support of the masses to solve their long pending demands.

PDP’s policies and programmes were aimed at addressing wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society, he said and reminded the people that during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed special attention was paid for the socio-economic growth the residents of border areas. He said that adequate compensation was paid to the farmers of border areas.

Speaking on the occasion former Rajya Sabha member and vice president of PDP Sardar Trilok Singh Bajwa said that farmers of border areas were benefitted during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed because besides restoring peace on borders, irrigation facilities were also taken up to tail end.

He however regretted that present NC-Congress regime was adopting anti-farmers’ policies. He attacked coalition regime for not taking farmers’ woes seriously. He said that cost of the fertilizers has increased manifold during the last some months but government has failed to increase Maximum Support Price (MSP) of farmers’ produce.

Bajwa said that due to causal approach of the government farmers are forced to sell their produce on very low price. While highlighting woes of the farmers on border areas, Bajwa further said that compensation to farmers, whose land was affected due to fencing on the borders, has not given yet.

He said that during the last five years misery of farming community has compounded. He strongly demanded that R S Pura, which is rice bowl of the State, be declared as Basmati Zone and solution of the long pending demands of the farmers.

A resolution was also passed in the meeting in which party assured to solve problems of refugees, it come to power, once for all.

Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Daman Bhasin, Fallail Singh, Jagjeet Singh Jagga, Bhushan Dogra, Chatter Singh Saini, Choudhary Chuni Lal, Deepinder Kour, Rajinder Singh Manhas, Som Nath Sukhvinder Singh and others also spoke on the occasion.
