After Chandanwari, ponywallas beaten up at Sheeshnag by BSF

SRINAGAR, July 3 : Border security force (BSF) personnel deployed for Yatra duty at Maha Ganesh top, Sheeshnag today allegedly beat up a ponywalla after a pilgrim fell down from his horse.
The incident triggered massive protests and clashes between the forces and ponywallas. During the clashes, at least five ponywallas sustained injuries. Five tents of the shrine board also suffered major damage in the stone pelting by the ponywallas.
Reports and eyewitnesses said the trouble began after a BSF personnel on duty near MG top beat up a ponywalla, Imtiyaz Ali, after a pilgrim on way to the holy cave fell off his pony.
“As the pilgrim fell down from the pony, a BSF personnel on road duty near the spot caught hold of the pony walla and beat him up severely.
On seeing this, other pony wallas rushed to save their associate from the clutches of the BSF man triggering clashes,” a pony walla told Kahmir Times over phone from Sheeshnag.
He said thousands of pony wallas, after the incident, staged protests and came down from MG top to Sheeshnag and staged protests and clashed with the forces deployed there for Yatra duty.
“They pony wallas resorted to heavy stone pelting on the forces and also attacked the shrine board tents resulting in heavy damage to five of them. Besides many tents of the local tent wallas were also damaged during the stone pelting,” reports said.
During the clashes which continued for more than three hours, they said, at least four pony wallas suffered injuries.
However, reports said that the deputy commissioner Anantnag and SSP Anantnag rushed to the spot and held meeting with the representatives of pony wallas and tent wallas and brought the situation under control.
“On their assurance that action will be taken against the erring BSF Personnel, the pony wallas agreed to resume the work,” said a pony walla.
