|JAMMU, Mar 17: Minister for Hajj, Auqaf, Public Enterprises and Floriculture, Peerzada Mohammad Syed today emphasized introducing the latest technology in all productive sectors like agriculture, horticulture and floriculture aiming at increasingly the socio-economic conditions of the farming community, adding that this is the only key source to ensure prosperity of the State in general and farming community in particular.|
This was stated by the Minister at Chatha here today after inaugurating the Kissan Mela and flower show in its experimental field station.
Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla was also present on the occasion.
“Saying that floriculture is among the priorities of Government, e urged for evincing keen interest in these sector for bringing change in the life style of people.
He appealed the growers to avail benefits from the schemes launched by the Government.
He said Government has launched several Centre and State sponsored schemes with a aim to uplift the farming community adding that focused attention is being given to promote the floriculture sector as it has a huge potential in the State of Jammu and Kashmir but need is to channelize it in a proper way. He said the government is also focused to providing hi-yielding seeds to the farmers but need is to cultivate cash crops.
Referring to the achievements registered by the department of Floriculture Jammu division, Peerzada said that 3 cold storages at Bhour Camp, Greenbelt park Gandhinagar and Zakhani Park at Udhampur have been set up to provide cold storage facilities in order to preserve the flowers in off seasons for ensuring availability of the crop in all the seasons of the year. He said three Refrigerated Vans have been procured by the Department to provide the transport facilities under controlled condition from flower fields of far flung areas to Urban Markets of the region.
He said 3 major parks, Veer Bhoomi Samba, Bhalwal Bharmana and Chandian at Akhnoor have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.98 crore. He said Rs. 10.28 crore have been earmarked during the current year for the development and maintenance of parks. He said development of Bhour Camp garden will be taken up shortly.
The Minister said that such Mela make farmers aware about latest technology and also its use for boosting the crop and its cultivation.
