Arrested cops paraded before complainant

SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Six SOG personnel and a civilian, arrested by police for allegedly extorting money, were paraded before the complainant in presence of first class magistrate today.

The parade was conducted at Shergari police station. The complainant, Shabir Ahmed, identified all the seven accused.

Yesterday, police arrested six cops and a civilian after Shabir Ahmad of Lachampora Batamaloo lodged a complaint that some men in uniform have extorted Rs 50,000 from him at Solina Srinagar. Police swung into action and arrested five cops of Indian Reserve Police deputed with SOG and on whose revelation one more cop and a civilian Firdous Ahmed was rounded up.

A case was registered in Police Station Shergari vide FIR number 20/2013 Under Section 392 against the accused. The complainant was called in Police Station Shergari today where he identified all the alleged extortionists in presence of first class magistrate, Fayaz Ahmad.

The arrested cops were identified as Constable Showkat Ahmad, Constable Javid Ahmad, Constable Bilal Ahmad and Constable Manzoor Ahmad, Constable Afaq Ahmed and Constable Javid Ahmed.
