Towns, cities to have modern infrastructure: Dy CM

JAMMU, July 8: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today distributed 313 cheques worth Rs 87.64 Lakhs among BPL beneficiaries of Municipal Committee Khour under Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP).
The beneficiaries from 13 wards of MC Khour were given financial assistance for construction of houses. Each beneficiary was given a cheque of Rs 28,000 as first installment.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the resolve of the government to equip towns and cities of the State with all required modern infrastructure, adding that urban facilities at par with those available in major towns are being developed in smaller towns and soon all big and small towns of the State would have one of the best developed urban infrastructure.
Tara Chand said in Khour town over Rs 1.50 crores have been spent under various urban projects for construction of lanes and drains, ladies bathrooms, community halls etc. He said facilities in the town are being developed on modern lines and with the development of these facilities the incidence of migration from small towns to major urban centers would be reduced to a large extent.
Calling upon youth to avail maximum benefit of various self employment schemes, the Deputy Chief Minister said younger generation should look beyond the realm of government jobs and develop skills to become future entrepreneurs. He said H&UD department also trains youth in various skills, so as to prepare them for starting their own ventures.
Flagship programme of SKWEPY is a landmark initiative by the government to address the burgeoning problem of unemployment in the State, he added.
Former Chairman MC Khour, Ex-Corporaters, Executive Officer and scores of people were present on the occasion.
