| | Painted rocks | | | Dear Editor, A hitherto neglected aspect of environmental degradation is the rocks on either side of Himalayan roads. It has often been observed that they are painted for making hoardings out of them. Besides ruining their aesthetic appeal, they are the ultimate distractions for the drivers on these roads. Himalayan roads are known for their sharp bends and anyone has to be extra vigilant for the same. Nowadays, companies, MNC’s included, take it for granted the ecology of these fragile mountainsides with an eye for maximum profit. Materialism is the obvious driving force behind these moves with norms thrown to wind. —Ayesha Khan, Jammu. |
