Kadian wins gold in Senior National Wrestling

KOLKATA, Nov 17(Agencies): Fresh from his bronze medal effort at the World Junior Championship, Satywart Kadian of Haryana put up another impressive show to clinch a gold medal on the concluding day of 58th Senior National Wrestling Championship at the Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra here on Sunday.

In a clinical display of freestyle combat, Satywart defeated Sumit of Railways 7-1 en route to the gold medal in the 96kg category.

The women`s 67kg category saw the major upset of the day when Asian bronze medal winner Sudha was pinned down by eventual gold medalist Nikki of Haryana in the quarterfinals as the Delhi girl had to settle for a bronze medal.

Haryana women added two more gold medals to their kitty to clinch the championship with 70 points, while Uttar Pradesh (51) and Delhi (46) finished second and third respectively.

In the men`s freestyle section, Railways reigned supreme with 52 points followed by Haryana (44) and Delhi (35).

In Greco-Roman, Services clinched the team championship with 61 points while Haryana (55) and Railways (48) finished second and third respectively.

Men`s Freestyle: 84kg (final): Pawan (Del) bt Naresh (RSPB) 7-0; Repechage (bronze): Pardeep Singh (PB) bt Amit Khatri (Del) by fall and Karamjeet Nain (Har) bt Sachin (Karnatake) 6-0.

96kg (final): Satywart Kadian (Har) bt Sumit (RSPB) 7-1; Repechage (bronze): Gurpal (Punj) bt Ravi (MP) 7-0 and Krishan (Chd) bt Munish (RSPB) 9-5.

120kg (final): Joginder (RSPB) bt Rohit Patil (RSPB) 9-5; Repechage (bronze): Devvart (Guj) bt Ranjan Tomar (UP) 7-2, Satender (SSCB) bt Gursahib (PB) 7-2

Greco-Roman: 96kg (final): Hardeep (RSPB) 8-0; Repechage (bronze): Anil (Har) bt Mohit Hooda (WB) 6-4; Bhim (SSCB) bt Jaspreet (Chd) 4-0.

120kg (final): Virender (RSPB) bt Navin (SSCB) 6-1; Repechage (bronze): Sandeep (MNP) bt Ravinder (SSCB) by fall and Jaskiam (PB) bt Narender (Chd) by fall.

Women`s Freestyle: 67kg (final): Anita (Har) bt Manu Tomar (UP) 6-0; Repechage (bronze): Navjot Kaur (Pun) bt Sayarani Begum (MNP) by fall and Sudesh (Del) bt Tarsem (Del) by fall.

72kg (final): Nikki (Har) bt Anshu Tomar (UP) 7-0; Repechage (bronze): Kiran (Har) bt Bhuvneshwai (UP) by fall and Jyoti (Del) bt Sukhpal Kaur (Pun) 8-0.

Team championship: Men`s Freestyle: RSPB 52 points, Haryana 44 points, Delhi 35 points.

Greco-Roman: SSCB 61pts; Haryana 55 points; RSPB 48 points.

Women`s Freestyle: Haryana 70 points; UP 51 points; Delhi 46 points.

JCC leadership meets Soz
