SRINAGAR, July 16: Jammu Kashmir Shiromani Akali Dal (JKSAD-Komal) has demanded a fair probe in Chattisinghpora massacre.
“…There should be fair and proper investigation regarding the Chittisinghpora massacre and truth should come out before the public,” said a statement issued by JKSAD.
The Chattisinghpora massacre refers to the fateful evening March 20, 2000, when 15 to 17 unidentified gunmen, entered the village of Chattisinghpora, in Anantnag district. They ordered all of the Sikh men and boys to assemble at the village Gurdwara, and systematically shot and killed 34 of them. Many others were injured in the attack, and least one man later died of his injuries.
In a statement issued here R S Khalsa, general secretary of JKSAD Komal has said that the massacre be probed fairly so that the truth comes out in the public.
Taking dig at the chief minister Omar Abdullah, the Sikh body has termed his statements ‘baseless’.
Addressing a gathering assembled on the birth anniversary of sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib celebrated at Gurdwara Foujipura Khag, Gyani Surjeet Singh Badal said he has already taken up the issues pertaining to Sikh community with the chief minister Omar Abdullah.
“This has now become the source of agony for me as well as for the whole community. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah always says in his statements that his government does justice with all the communities in the state, but on ground it doesn’t work. These are totally baseless statements. The state government has been doing injustice to the Sikh community since long. Now we can’t tolerate it,” he said while demanding a 20 per cent reservation of unemployed Sikh youths in government jobs and J&K bank.
He appealed to the chief minister Omar Abdullah to conduct the elections of the Gurudwaras of the state. After 2003, the elections of Gurdwaras in Kashmir are still pending, a spokesman of the JKSAD has said.
“It was decided earlier in June 2011 that elections would be conducted, but it failed. The Dal wants to know the reasons behind all this. This has created a lot of confusion among the Sikh community,” the spokesman of the JKSAD has added.
Meanwhile, the speakers on the occasion while reiterating the contribution of Sikh community have said that the existence of National Conference and Congress is due to the sacrifices of 35,000 Sikh’s in 1947. “Today every political party is enjoying the seeds shown by the brave Sikh community. We appeal Government to look into over matters. Even we are deprived of our basic rights.” |
