Elderly woman among 2 killed in road mishaps

JAMMU, Jul 16: Two persons including an elderly woman were killed in two separate road mishaps in Samba and Jammu districts, today.
Police said that an elderly woman was killed after being hit by a TATA Sumo vehicle of Traffic police department at Vijaypur near Post Office, today.
The deceased has been identified as Reena Devi, 70, wife of Ram Lal of Rajinderpura (Bagoona) Samba.
Police said that she was crossing the highway opposite Post Office when the traffic police TATA Sumo bearing registration number JK02AR-9979 on way from Jammu to Samba hit her resulting in serious injuries. She was shifted to EH Vijaypur from where she was referred to the GMC hospital Jammu.
Her condition continued to deteriorate and she succumbed to her wounds later.
The body after autopsy was handed over to the family members for last rites.
Police has registered a case under section 304 RPC against the traffic Head Constable (driver) Rajbir Singh in this connection. The TATA Sumo vehicle has also been seized by the police.
An unidentified middle aged man died after being hit by an unknown vehicle at Jallo Chak in Bishnah.
Police said that the locals found a man age at-least 45-years lying on the roadside in an unconscious condition and they informed police.
Cops shifted him to GMC hospital where doctors pronounced him as brought dead.
The body was shifted to GMC mortuary for identification and autopsy.
