Fire in Zum Zum building
SRINAGAR, July 11: Fire broke out in Zum Zum Building at Ram Bagh here this evening.

The six-storeyed building houses some government and semi-government offices.

Reports said the fire was noticed from the staircase area of the office of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) building on first floor at around 6. 19 PM. It engulfed the rooms on the same portion in other top floors in its flames.

The fire tenders rushed towards the affected area and launched the fire fighting operation. Two fire fighters Sham-u-Din and Bashir Ahmad were injured when they fell down from first floor to ground floor during the operation. They were hospitalized, said Mohammad Akbar, deputy director fire and emergency services (command Srinagar).

It took nearly an hour for the fire fighters to completely extinguish the fire. Some office rooms in the building were partially damaged. They included that of ISM director at first floor, cable car and JK minerals on second floor, excise commissioner and chairman service selection board at third floor, selection board at 4th floor and director cable car, registrar ISM, and service selection board at 5th floor.

The office of director tribal affairs was also damaged due to water at ground floor. Police said they have registered a case and the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

Govt orders inquiry
SRINAGAR, July 11: Following the fire incident in the annexe of Civil Secretariat Srinagar this morning, the Government today ordered an inquiry into the incident to be conducted by Secretary, General Administration Department. The inquiry will be completed within 15 days. Minister of State for Home, Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo inspected the site of fire and personally monitored the rescue and fire extinguishing operation.
