| | JK-XI beats Mohammedan Sporting Club in 2nd goodwill football match | | Mohan Bagan football team to be invited to play matches in state: Chib | | BARAMULLA, July 17: JK-XI football team today beat Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata in the 2nd goodwill football match by 1-0 here today. The match which was played at Degree College grounds was organized by the J&K State Sports Council and Jammu & Kashmir Football Association. Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion while as Minister of State for R&B Javid Ahmad Dar was guest of honour. MLA Syed Basharat Bukhari was also present on the occasion. Talking to media, the Minister said that the team of Mohan Bagan club will also be invited to play football matches in the month of September, adding that the matches will be played in Jammu and Leh also. Expressing happiness over winning of match by the host team, he extended his compliments to the winning team. He said even the players of J&K-XI was derived from various tea, but they played co-ordinately and consistently hoping that they will represent the state at national and international levels. . He also appreciated the guest team for exhibiting good skills during the match. “If we desire to participate at national and international levels, we need to train the younger’s”, he added. Complimenting the organizers, Chib also expressed his gratitude to the public who came there to witness the match and showed patience during the match and encouraged both the tea through applauses and shouting slogans. Chib said that the crowd witnessed in the previous and today’s match shows that football is popular sport in the valley. He said one more Astro Turf playfield will be developed to provide added facilities to the players, adding that the government is planning to develop modern stadium with state-of-the-art facilities On behalf of Chief Minister, the Minister conveyed well wishes to both the tea. Earlier, the Ministers were introduced to the players. Later, the Ministers gave way prizes to the winning and runner-up tea. They also distributed individual trophies and medals among players. |

| ‘Militant’ killed in Handwara encounter | | SRINAGAR, Jul 17: An unidentified ‘militant’ was killed in the wee hours today in an encounter with police and army at Batsunjhi in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.
The militant, according to the police, was hiding in the forest near Jaba in the village. On a tip off, the police and army started a search operation overnight, resulting in a gunfight that ended at 9 AM with death of the ‘militant’.
