| | CSC report on GST to be submitted to Cabinet soon: Rather | | | SRINAGAR, July 17: The Cabinet-Sub-Committee (CSC) on proposed Goods & Services Tax held here today under the Chairmanship of the Minister for Finance & Ladakh Affairs, A.R.Rather discussed the report of the Sub-Group constituted to analyze the pros and cons of the proposed Legislative measure. The Committee in today’s meeting concluded its deliberations and the report will be submitted to Cabinet shortly. The Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Moh-ud-din and Minister for Health & Horticulture, Sham Lal Sharma, who are members of the CSC, attended the meeting. The Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Iqbal Khandy, Law Secretary, G.H. Tantray and Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi were also present in the meeting. The Constitution Amendment Bill, 2010 in this regard is presently under the consideration of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. |

| ‘Militant’ killed in Handwara encounter | | SRINAGAR, Jul 17: An unidentified ‘militant’ was killed in the wee hours today in an encounter with police and army at Batsunjhi in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.
The militant, according to the police, was hiding in the forest near Jaba in the village. On a tip off, the police and army started a search operation overnight, resulting in a gunfight that ended at 9 AM with death of the ‘militant’.
