| | J&K Bank organizes awareness camps | | | JAMMU, Jul 17: To give a boost to agriculture sector and to reach out to far flung areas, J&K Bank organised awareness cum credit camps for Kissan Credit Card (KCC) at Arizal, Budgam and Chunduna, Ganderbal here today. The camp was organized by the Cluster office of the bank. President and Zonal Head Kashmir (Central) Bashir Ahmad Lone was the chief guest on the occasion. Cluster Head Budgam, Abdul Hamid Khan informed the farmers about implementation and benefits of Kissan Credit Card and assured the participants that such awareness cum credit camps would be organized under different schemes in future also. Meanwhile, Cluster Head Ganderbal also organised KCC mela at Chunduna in Ganderbal. Speaking on the occasion, Bank’s Vice-President for Kashmir Central, Viqar-ul-Mulk Nazki said, “We are always eager to come closer to people and make them aware about various services and products J&K Bank offers including government sponsored schemes, to usher in an era of equitable economic growth and prosperity.” Around 200 KCCs were distributed among the farmers on the occasion. Describing J&K Bank as the partner in peoples’ progress, Nazki acknowledged peoples’ cooperation saying, “The force behind J&K Bank’s growth and prosperity is the people of J&K. Their massive participation has anchored the Bank’s growth story beyond gratitude. The relationship is more about mutual trust than transaction.” Stating that KCC is a product that needs to be properly understood by the farming community for better harvesting returns by way of timely finance, he emphasized that the scheme offers credit up to Rs.1 lac without any guarantee, up to Rs.5 lacs with guarantee while mortgage is required for credits exceeding Rs.5.00 lacs. Others present on the occasion were Vice-President (Lead Bank) Mohammad Sidiq Wani, Cluster Head Budgam Abdul Hamid Khan, Head B.U Arizal Riyaz Ahmad Shoga and a number of beneficiaries of Kissan Credit Card. |

| ‘Militant’ killed in Handwara encounter | | SRINAGAR, Jul 17: An unidentified ‘militant’ was killed in the wee hours today in an encounter with police and army at Batsunjhi in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.
The militant, according to the police, was hiding in the forest near Jaba in the village. On a tip off, the police and army started a search operation overnight, resulting in a gunfight that ended at 9 AM with death of the ‘militant’.
