IGP’s concern over rise in thefts, road mishaps

JAMMU, Oct 18: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone Dilbag Singh today expressed his concern over increase in cases of vehicle thefts and burglaries, drug peddling and stressed to curb these kinds of crimes. He also expressed concern over increase in suicide cases and road accidents leading to death on roads and injuries to many people.
Official reports said that a review for 3rd quarter of the year was held under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Jammu zone Dilbag Singh at Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu, zone ,Jammu today with Range DIsGs and district SSsP of Jammu zone to have an over-all view of the crime, security, law and order situation of the zone.
While elaborating, it was mentioned that maintenance of law & order, prevention of crime, speedy investigation and disposal of cases, adequate attention to public grievances on day-to-day basis, special attention to public importance cases, strengthening police-public rapport are of utmost importance. The steps taken on counter insurgency front for a better security and law and order scenario were also discussed.
It was heartening to see that the achievements of the targets set for the 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter of 2012 on most of the fronts were found highly satisfactory. Some areas where focused attention of the District SSsP and Range DIsG would be required have been identified and discussed. The Officers were complimented for excellent maintenance of law and order and successful investigation of some of the very importance cases especially murder cases.
IGP Jammu zone, however, expressed his concern over the cases of vehicle thefts and other thefts and burglary cases against drug peddlers where further efforts were required to be made to check these kinds of crime. Suicide cases and road accidents leading to death on roads and injuries to many people were areas of special concern where all concerned need to play their roll to check loss of human life.
IGP Jammu, Dilbag Singh, while briefing the officers emphasized the need for people-friendly approach and behaviour of the police force at the cutting edge level and stressed that the Police should not only be fair in their actions but also should look like being fair to everyone. Public confidence can be generated through our people-friendly attitude which should be exhibited at all levels. He stressed for professional approach in investigation of crime especially public significance cases. The Involvement and close supervision of senior officers, use of scientific-investigation methods is required for quality investigation and public satisfaction, he added. General conduct of police especially subordinate ranks to common people has to be helping and cordial and not rude and indifferent.
IGP Jammu, Dilbag Singh, also stressed that touring by police officers in their respective areas, meeting people and interacting with them on social and professional matters is of significance
