‘Attempts being made to breakup the probe panel against Taj’

ANANTNAG, Nov 12: Stating that the threat issued by the United Jihad Council (UJC) to Panches and Sarpanchs was unjustified, state secretary (CPIM) and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, today said that the era of threats has gone.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a party workers convention at Achabal, Tarigami said, “Threatening Panchayat representatives, has no justification at all. Gone are the days when threats would make any effect. Sallahudin’s statement threatening Panchayat members will prove totally ineffective. Panchayat members have been elected by the people for the local development and they should carry on with their job.”
In reply to a question about the probe panel against senior congress leader and PHE minister, Taj Mohiuddin, Tarigami said, “Though forming the house committee to probe the graft allegations was a welcome step but irony is that the panel is yet to begin the probe attempts are being made to break it up. The committee too should probe the case sincerely and seriously and put the fact before the house.”
He further asked the political parties not to pressurize the committee while probing the allegations against the minister. “There should not be any pressure on the committee. It should be allowed to probe the case freely so that the facts come to fore,” Tarigami said.
He however added that what ever findings the committee comes up with should be acceptable to every one. Tarigami also termed the postponement of block development council (BDC) polls as a biggest mistake on part of government. “Postponing BDC polls was the biggest ever mistake by the government. The elections if held would lead to the complete empowerment of Panchayats in the state but the government instead of empowering them seems to make claims only. Had they (Government) been sincere in strengthening of this democratic institution it won’t have deferred BDC elections,” Tarigami said.
