Dismal power scenario
Dear Editor,
From the countryside to the urban areas, the power scenario has shown its uglier face this year. Uglier, because every record worth its name has been broken by the power department! The urban areas which are always thought to be leading a bit easier life owing to the proximity of facilities and services has proven to be a misnomer. With every other moment bordering on unpredictability, it is a sight to be seen than to be believed in the households these days, with the kind of jugglery one is made to be performed by the department.
The rural areas with the agriculture as their main means of livelihood has been hit the hardest as the non-availability of electricity virtually stops the pumps pulling up the water from various sources. Plus, the failure in monsoon arrival has further magnified the problem, yet it is a fact that increasing population does play havoc with the availability of the sources as they are limited. One can only pray that the monsoon is regained to some extent so that man-made problems lessen their severity with each passing day.
