| | Students distraught over Kendriya Vidyalaya shift | | School Association seeks parental support | | By Anubhav Suri and Shivi Raina | |
| JAMMU, July 29: More than 700 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya located at the city outskirts at Lale da Bagh are facing untold hardships and are made to run from pillar to post thanks to the negligence on the part of the School Association. The students have been turned into refugees in their own school thanks to the callous attitude of the authorities. Allegedly, the reason behind the whole scenario is the messing up of things by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan which has resulted in the school building being turned into ruins with the hapless students bearing the brunt. The school building situated at Lale da Bagh is in such a dilapidated condition that the kids are unable to study there. The kids have been shifted to a school based at Bantalab where they are made to attend the classes from 1.30 PM to 6.30 PM in the evening shift. To study in the afternoons is a cumbersome procedure for them where they don’t have enough time which is a matter of concern. Rather odd timings of the school force the parents to rethink a thousand times before sending their wards to the school. Meanwhile, the classes for the students of the host school Kendriya Vidyalaya at Bantalab are being held from 7.00 AM in the morning whereas the classes for Lale da Bagh school students are held in the evening. Kanhaiya Lal Raina, whose grandson studies in Kendriya Vidyalaya at Lale da Bagh, is planning to accompany the latter to Bantalab now. Because of distance factor, he might face innumerable problems as the new location is very far from his area. He says that it all feels weird because the time his grandson used to reach back, is now the time to leave for his school. “Because of this,” he further says, “The kid feels lost and is gradually getting disinterested in his studies. Already, it is a well known fact that these days owing to severe heat, children avoid going to their school.” Meanwhile another parent Vikas Dogra says, “At least, the school authorities should have made transport provisions for the kids so that the latter wouldn’t face any problems while commuting from their places to the school.” At the same time another parent Manish Salathia wonders as what might happen, once the winters’ descend because then the darkness starts to spread rather earlier from 5.00 PM onwards. He also expressed his dismay over what might happen to their children once the temperatures go down, if the situation persists like this. Right now, these are some of the questions which are disturbing the parents. They insist that the school should be allowed to function at Lale da Bagh itself and adequate facilities for their studies should be ensured by the authorities. The building which is in ruins nowadays should be repaired on a war footing by those at the helm of affairs. They also said that their wards’ tuition classes are also suffering owing to the odd timings in the evening. This they said was because by the time the child reaches back around 6.00 PM in the evening he/she is exhausted and is not fit enough to attend them. A number of students’ organizations are angry over the attitude of the Kendriya Vidyalaya over the issue, with National Panther’s Students Union (NPSU) even organizing protest rallies but nothing concrete came out. NPSU president Pratap Singh Jamwal says the school authorities have adopted a deaf and dumb attitude which is why they aren’t able to hear anything and the genuine grievances of kids are being overlooked. Reiterating however, the school authorities resolve over the issue, the Principal of the school, Bharti said that the parents’ apprehension regarding the closure of the school is unfounded; this was not going to happen. The school branch at Kendriya Vidyalaya Lale da Bagh won’t be closed as of now. It is only due to the dangerous condition of the building that the premises have been shifted for a fixed time frame, keeping in view, the security of the students so that their studies don’t suffer as a result. Meanwhile, the students have been shifted to Kendriya Vidyalaya Bantalab, which is functioning as a temporary school for them. She also pointed towards the unavailability of the funds because of which the construction work could get delayed but at the same time, she said that they can’t put the children’s lives at risk. The school Principal appealed to the mentors to cooperate with the authorities in this matter. “Very soon, the school will be shifted back to Lale da Bagh,” she further said. |
