AW workers of valley to get honorarium before Id-ul-Fitr

SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Around 15085 Anganwari workers under Integrated Child Development Scheme would be provided honorarium before Id-Ul-Fitr this year and beneficiaries of old age pension, physically challenged, infirm persons, widows and destitutes also can obtain the financial assistance through online bank facility launched by state Social Welfare Department recently.
This was stated by the Director, Social Welfare Department Kashmir, Kh. Bashir Ahmad Bhat while addressing an officers meeting held here today to review the pace of progress of disbursement of pension and scholarship under various centrally and state sponsored schemes in various districts of the valley.
He said Rs 60 crore is being spent on providing yearly supplementary nutrition to 6.30 lakh below 6 years age children and lactating mothers. He said the nourishment is also given to mentally and physically challenged persons under the scheme.
Proposal for setting up of 4800 Anganwari centres in the valley has been framed and is under active consideration of the central government to provide the facility to uncovered areas, he added.
In order to boost the morale and encourage students to achieve excellence in their academic career, the Department of Social Welfare has already disbursed Rs 6 crore among 4421 students under post-matric scholarship scheme during current fiscal and Rs 29.48 crore are being disbursed among 1,73,178 students under pre-matric scholarship scheme.
Similarly, during last financial year, Rs 8.13 crore were disbursed among 60,478 students as pre-matric and Rs 7.83 crore among 9327 students under post matric scholarship scheme which would be disbursed in due course of time.
Giving the details of other schemes under execution, Bhat said that yearly Rs 106 crore is being disbursed among 2.86 lakh physically challenged, old and infirm persons, widows and destitutes by the department.
The department is running nine orphanages for boys with intake capacity of 55 and six orphanages for girls with intake capacity 25 in the valley. The students are provided basic elementary education, boarding and lodging facility free of cost.
