| | Funds crunch for rain water harvesting system | | | Dear Editor, Rain water harvesting has emerged as one of the most viable options in these days of scarcity. Often, the need for adopting techniques such as these has been felt acutely over the years, with the result that the scientists worldwide have suggested this unique alternative. However, our State seems to lag behind in this area and most of the time, authorities’ say that the funds crunch is the main reason behind the non-implementation of the schemes therein. People and especially, those belonging to Jammu region are standing today on a crucial juncture as far as the availability of this precious resource is concerned. So, the issue must be addressed by the authorities on a war footing, as the water sources have been contaminated beyond recognition. Atleast, they aren’t fit for the drinking purposes. To cater to the needs of the general masses, adopting these methods ensures the purest and thus, safest water source provided to us by the nature. However, this should be done on a large scale involving as many people as possible to benefit large swathes of population. —Ritika, Jammu. |
