Doctors shortage irks Bhaderwah people
Dear Editor,
Contrary to the tall claims of Health department of recruiting Doctors, paramedical staff and boasting about a robust infrastructure in the rural areas, these are confined to the papers only and often prove to be hollow.
The sub-district hospital of Bhaderwah is an excellent example of governmental apathy. The Hospital is in a deteriorating condition due to the shortage of Doctors and is thus a severe problem there. The Bhaderwah people are bearing the brunt of this palpable shortage.
One can imagine about the fate of a School without a teacher, same is the case with a Hospital without a Doctor.
Here the quote suits well to health department “living in fools’ paradise”. The Health department failed in its promise to provide adequate number of Doctors and infrastructure, adding to the woes of the people and causing great inconvenience and hardships, especially to old ailing persons and the children, in terms of delayed treatment. They are compelled to cover long distances to visit either district Hospital or Government Medical College Jammu (GMC) every now and then. The people brought their difficulties into the notice of Health Deptt. and the concerned authorities, but haven’t been paid any heed to fill up the vacant posts till now.
It is ironical that Bhaderwah being the home town of Ghulam Nabi Azad (Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare) is facing the shortage of Doctors. MLA Bhaderwah Mohd. Sharief Niaz also brought the problem into the kind notice of district authorities. But, nothing concrete emerged and the talks of bringing transparency in terms of what direction to take and how to convert GMC into one of the premier Health Institutions’ like AIIMS has failed. Constructing concrete buildings with big glassy windows is of no use, if it fails in its primary objective of treating the patients from far and wide. If nothing, then it clearly indicates the non-serious approach adopted by the concerned authorities!
