Mohali and Amritsar to be developed as IT hubs
AMRITSAR, Aug 4 (Agencies) : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that that Mohali and Amritsar would be developed as IT hubs, Malwa was to be developed as a textile hub, while the border areas would be developed as sugar hubs.
To further boost the industry and trade in Punjab, Sukhbir also shared the government's plan to develop two trade centres -- one each in Mohali and Amritsar, spread over 100 acres and 20 acres respectively. He also expressed hope of exporting surplus power to neighbouring Pakistan.
At an interaction organized by CII Punjab on Friday Badal who addressed over 50 leaders from Punjab industry declared that all the offices of the Punjab government would be paperless within three years.
He said that the digitization of the revenue and excise departments had extraordinary results with huge benefits in terms of data collection and efficiency, and these results were expected to be repeated when all the departments ere digitized In view of the need for focused development in Punjab, Badal stressed the need for a geographically rationalised development, wherein industries and businesses were set up at locations with the requisite raw materials rather than hauling raw materials over long distances.
Divulging the details of development vision for Amritsar, Badal said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort would become the center of attraction for tourists after completion of ongoing works, Attari Border would witness a world class food court, laser show and Ram Bagh, the traditional walking point, would be beautified with the best landscaping. He said that implementation would be personally monitored by him while the maintenance would be on outsourcing basis.
