| | Bids to provoke people: IGP | | | SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Inspector General of Police (IGP) S M Sahai today justified the frequent house arrests of the Hurriyat Conference leaders. He told a local news agency, KNS, that“certain elements” were bent upon fomenting trouble in the valley. “But unwillingness of people to fall prey of such designs helped police to maintain calm in the valley. Various attempts were made to provoke people even the shrines were torched and sectarian cards played to create trouble. But people were alert and so was the police,” Sahai said. He maintained that the police would not allow anybody to create law and order problem and will take every possible step to ‘thwart’ such designs. “If you allow separatist leaders to address the public that will definitely be followed by stone pelting incidents which cannot be permitted at any cost,” the IGP asserted, adding that if they (separatists) want to go outside for some ‘good cause’, nobody would stop them. |
