| | Adhocism in colleges | | Govt has miserably failed in making permanent appointments in higher education | | | The Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to end adhocism in the higher education setup by filling up about 1100 posts of college teachers has been received with skepticism by the candidates in particular. In fact, the process of conducting the recruitment of college teachers has been pending for the past almost four years except for few disciplines in which some appointments have been made for in-service candidates. Most of the aspirants have been waiting for all these years to be appointed on permanent basis in colleges but no advertisement have been issued by the government after new colleges have been opened in almost every district and posts have been created after that. The government has been employing college teachers on adhoc and contractual basis for carrying on the teaching work for the past more than seven years. Majority of the candidates who have been working on contractual basis have been seeking their absorption on permanent basis but the government and its agencies have been shying away from this responsibility. It will be good luck for the aspirants if the government goes ahead with its plan of permanent appointments. Many colleges opened in the recent past have been operating without even a single permanent staffer on its rolls. As a result of these arrangements, the teaching work has been suffering and the students have been the worst affected lot. That is the main reason why regular academic courses have never been completed during the given session and pass percentage has also been adversely affected. Unfortunately, the government has been denying justice to eligible candidates when they have been recruited on adhoc basis for the teaching work and some of them having got over-aged in the process. |
