SRINAGAR, Feb 24: The Army on Monday claimed to have killed at least seven militants in a fierce gun battle that started in Lolab forests in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to police, 18 RR and Police, seven militants were killed in an encounter in the jungle area of Dardpora, in the jurisdiction of Police station Lalpora. Reports pouring in from Kupwara said that Army’s 18 RR laid a cordon around the Madkulla Behak forests of Dardpora village in Lolab after receiving a tip off about the presence militants in the forest.

An army spokesman in Srinagar told Kashmir Times, that “There was a fire on army patrol which led to our retaliation and the firing resulted in the killing of seven militants. The militants have not been identified yet. But the operation is on.” He said, “A huge cache of arms and other war like stores have been recovered from the site.”
