| | Our Own Olympics..! | | | Since the three countries of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh aren’t doing too well at the Olympics, it’s time some corrective measures are taken. The first is that since more of our officials than sports people attend this great global event at government expense there needs to be some contests that even these esteemed gentlemen and ladies and their families take part in. I mean they’ve gone all the way to London, to watch other people win, shouldn’t they after all, having taken time off from their responsible jobs also come back happy with medallions, gold, silver and bronze? A prize should be given to the biggest shopper: Yes, this is one sport our poor sportsmen can’t take part in, most of the money anyway goes into the official’s pockets, so why not give a prize to the one who has bought the most number of things abroad, we could even give a prize to a wife maybe, who has spent the most number of hours shopping! It’s not everyone who would sacrifice watching Bolt bolting to spend time at Harrods, right? Another prize, again for an official, should be the one who exists on a shoe string budget; the one official, who is able to use all the facilities offered to athletes, their bed, their food, their clothes, etc, and doesn’t have to dip into his or her own savings. I am sure this will be a prize that will be hotly contested, given the experience and skill our government officials have. These humble suggestions of mine, are if we want to continue in the Olympics in it’s present form, but what we should actually do is to pull out of these games and have our own Desi Olympics! Games, athletics and other events that our own youngsters are skillful at: I mean how long are we going to face a drubbing in running, swimming, hockey, football, tennis, wrestling and whatever else these other nations so unfairly have put on their list without consulting us? Let us separate, with our own games: Games of skill like rock climbing; however unlike the rock climbing that the Olympics talk about, ours will be about pulling down contestants who try to reach the top. This is a sport we all are used to, at our places of work, in our hones, religious areas, everywhere; pull him down, before he reaches the top. Then we could have the ‘blame game’ and as the name suggests, the prize goes to the man or woman who is able to blame the most number of people for his failures! I am sure there will be millions who will compete and this event could be a roaring success. I am sure you have your suggestions too, and together let us take our three countries in the sub-continent to a future games experience that will be enjoyable for all of us. Down with the unfair Olympics, up, with our own desi one..! bobsbanter@gmail.com |
