| | Misleading advertisements | | | Dear Editor, These days the media is flush with the advertisements promising moon to the audiences wherever they are. There is more than which meets the eye in these cases inasmuch the claims made by the companies prove to be hollow once the products are used. Most of the companies thrive on the fantastical claims made by them regarding the latter. By far, the most ridiculous of them are the fairness cream advertisements which fall short of the expected standards. As per numerous newspaper reports, consumers are beginning to be aware of the pros and cons of using the products, but there are many who still fall outside the ambit. Under the RTI Act, the consumers have every right to know about the kind of ingredients in the making of any particular product. If any company fails to comply with the norms as demanded by the people, hefty fines and in many cases, jail term should be introduced to send shivers down the spine of those who dare to play with the trust of the people. —Rajeev, Jammu. |
