| | Six snatchers, thieves nabbed in Jammu | | | JAMMU, Sep 7: Police claimed to have arrested three snatchers and equal number of battery thieves from City East and recovered the looted and stolen goods from their possession. Addressing media persons here today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Parbhat Singh asserted that recently there have been some cases of purse snatching and stealing of batteries of heavy vehicles particularly in South East of Jammu. He constituted a special team headed by DySP Shamsher Singh Sambyal SDPO City East Jammu, Inspector Sameer Jeelani SHO Police Station Bahu Fort Jammu, Deepak Pathania SHO Police Station Channi Himmat and Hilal Mohammad Azhar I/C PP Narwal Bala. The police team worked hard and identified the snatchers. Different teams headed by these officers were fanned out in City East to trap the snatchers and they ultimately succeeded in apprehending the snatchers. SSP identified the arrested snatchers as Ashish Changotra son of Sham Lal Changotra of House number 840 Lane number 6 Bhagwati Nagar Jammu, Prince Malhotra alias Kaka son of Girdhari Lal Malhotra of Lane number 5 Bhagwati Nagar Jammu. Both the accused were put into sustained questioning. During questioning, both accuse confessed their involvement in three motorcycle theft cases and four purse snatching incidents from women. Two incidents occurred under the jurisdiction of Police Station Channi Himmat and one each in Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar areas. The modus operandi of accused, SSP Jammu said, was that they used to steal motorcycle for executing the purse snatching and after committing the crime the stolen motorcycles were abandoned where fuel exhausts. During every purse snatching, they stole different motorcycles. On the disclosure of both accused, police recovered three motorcycles bearing registration number JK02AC-7591, stolen from SMGS hospital, JK02V-6520 stolen from Shakti Nagar area and JK02V-8417 stolen from Nanak Nagar area. All the three motorcycles were recovered from different location of City East. Similarly on the disclosure of both accused three purses snatched recently were recovered and cash contained in purses Rs 17530, 3 Mobiles sets and other articles were also recovered. So far, 7 cases of snatching and vehicle lifting have been solved. Since the investigation is in preliminary stage and more recoveries from the accused expected, Jammu district police chief said. SSP averred that cops of Police Post Narwal headed by SI Hilal Mohammad Azhar under the supervision of SDPO East apprehended three thieves Zarit Gill alias Kalu son of Wazir Gill of Narwal Jammu, Raju Kumar alias Raju son of Ram Gopal of Malik Market and Gourav Sharma son of Gopi Sharma of Narwal Bala Jammu who were involved in stealing the batteries from heavy vehicles at Narwal, Sainik Colony and Malik Market areas. The thieves were put into sustained questioning and during questioning they confessed six batteries stolen from Transport Nagar area, 1 from Sainik Colony and 1 from Malik Market. One of the associates of thieves Raju Kumar was a security guard in Yard number 7 Transport Nagar who used to help the thieves by making recee of the area and remained in uniform while committing the theft alongwith his associates so that if any one sees them they could not doubted. On the disclosure of thieves police have recovered six batteries of heavy vehicles, 1 Maruti Car bearing registration number JKU-1748 and 1 Gas Cylinder. They used said Maruti Car for their travelling and carrying the stolen batteries. Six cases of theft have been solved so far and more recoveries are anticipated, SSP added. |
