Killer roads kill 9 across J&K
5 die, 15 injured in Bhaderwah

DODA/BHADERWAH, Sep 7: In a tragic road accident, at-least five passengers including a woman and a seven-year-old girl were killed and fifteen others sustained injuries, when an overloaded Tempo Traveller in which they were travelling in skidded off the Seri Bridge and fell into the rivulet under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bhaderwah, this afternoon.
The ill fated vehicle bearing registration number JK06-3469 carrying about 20 passengers, almost double its capacity, was on its way from Bhaderwah to Doda. When it reached near Seri Bridge, the driver of the vehicle lost control over the vehicle due to which it rolled down into a deep gorge resulting in death of five persons, on the spot, and injuries to 15 others at 2.45 PM. Two passengers were critically wounded in the mishap and they were airlifted to GMC hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh Kumar son of Raj Kumar of Nanpara UP, Neem Paul son of Rashid Bhagat of Thananawab Ganj (UP), Sardari Lal son of Charan Das of Selani Top Doda, Bogi wife of Rashid Bhagat of Thananawab Ganj UP and one female child about 7 year daughter of Chalu (UP).
Soon-after receiving the information about the accident, police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation alongwith locals who were the first to reach the spot. The occupants of the vehicle were evacuated and rushed to District Hospital Doda where from police liaised with higher authorities and managed airlifting of seriously injured passengers to GMC Jammu for specialised treatment.
Seriously injured passengers who were airlifted to GMC hospital were identified as Irfan son of Parvez Ahmed of Malnai Doda and Malwa wife of Kotri of Batwara UP.
Out of the injured, thirteen persons including eight children in the age group of 3 to 7 years have been admitted in District Hospital Doda and their condition is stated to be stable.
Other injured included Chanda Ram son of Gujjar, Angoor son of Daaru, Meena Ram son of Gujjar, Charanjeet Singh son of Angur, Rashid Ali son of Mehdi Ali, Shailu Ram son of Ram Saran, Sukh Chain son of Shailu Ram, Shalla Devi wife of Shailu Ram, Kajal daughter of Shailu Ram, all residents of Saraswati U.P).
“It was a horrifying scene on the spot. Blood-littered bodies were lying scattered on the rocks,” an eyewitness said.
Most of the passengers were residents of Uttar Pradesh who came to Bhaderwah to sell flower pots. They were on their way to Doda to sell the flower pots.
District administration gave Rs 2,000 to each injured and Rs 3, 000 to each dead.
