Desist from misleading statements: NC | NC telling lies, Azad brought package: Saroori

JAMMU, May 20: After fighting a covert political war of nerves vis-à-vis central relief package for earthquake victims, the coalition partners National Conference and Congress today locked horns directly in the erstwhile Doda district.
Much to the amusement of political adversaries, the alliance leaders have got engaged in ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ over the central package which is so far elusive for the quake victims.
From NC, the official verbal offensive was launched against Congress MLA from Inderwal and former minister G M Saroori by a group of former ministers and legislators. They asked him to desist from issuing “misleading statements
Interestingly, Saroori, who is considered to be the trusted lieutenant of Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad, too has rebutted the charges bit by bit, officially.
The bone of contention is Rs 334 Cr package released by the Centre recently following quake.
While Congress leaders from Azad camp hailed the central aid projecting it as a package for quake victims released at the behest of Azad. NC did not mince words in disputing these claims yet so far it avoided a direct conflict and preferred a covert combat.
On Saturday, NC’s provincial president Jammu Devender Rana, presently camping in the erstwhile Doda district along with Dr Mustafa Kamal, had tried to offset the claims of Congress leaders with an oblique dig at them for “going ga ga over routine central aid of Rs 334 Cr under SDR Fund.”
This time National Conference on Monday described as unfortunate the misleading statements of a senior Congress leader with regard to cash assistance purportedly released for the Centre for the earthquake victims of the Chenab Valley.
National Conference on Monday described as unfortunate the misleading statements of a senior Congress leader with regard to cash assistance purportedly released by the Centre for the earthquake victims of the Chenab Valley.
In a joint statement, senior leaders Babu Ram Paul, former minister, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, Brij Mohan Sharma ex-MLC, Th. Kashmira Singh, ex-MLC, Gurdeep Singh Sasan and Sajjad Shaheen described such irresponsible utterances as playing with the sentiments of the sufferers.

The senior leaders referred to the repeated statements of Mr G M Saroori, MLA claiming that Rs 334 crores had been sanctioned by the Centre for the victims and clarified that this amount is a normal installment allocated to Jammu and Kashmir on account of State Disaster Relief Fund. “This is not a special relief package for the earthquake sufferers of Doda -Kishtwar and Ramban”, they said while asking Mr Saroori to clarify his stand and come clear over the issue. They said its surprising Mr. Saroori is talking about package having been released while the Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah is requesting the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for the release of the package.

Regretting Mr. Saroori’s rhetoric, the leaders termed such irresponsible utterances against the spirit of coalition, adding that the Chief Minister has already met the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and sought a special package on Leh pattern and hailed the prime minister’s concern for the earth quake sufferers.

The leaders advised Mr Saroori not to play to the gallery and rather help in securing maximum possible help for the victims. They also made a fervent appeal to Mr Saroori to join hands in helping the victims in real sense of term instead of making issues out of non-issues and advised him to stop playing politics over the earthquake victims.
The NC leaders appealed the Union Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad to use their good offices for getting the demand projected by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah before the Prime Minister expedited.
