Lamhon ne khata kee thee!
Dear Editor,
The Central Govt has hiked the Diesel prices heavily as high as Rs five per litre and restricted supply of subsidized LPG Cylinders to the consumers to six a year, stating that it has become inevitable to reduce the losses suffered by the PSU oil companies. Besides, foreign direct investment in retail sector has also been allowed, by saying that the FDI and FII flow will limit the reliance on external debts. Prices of vegetables, pulses, cereals, spices, dry fruit, milk products etc are shooting sky high day by day, making the living of the common masses and the working classes quite miserable.
Opening of the retail sector for foreign investors and MNC’s will result in snatching of livelihoods from crores of vendors, small shopkeepers as they will not be in a position to compete with millionaires and multimillionaires.
Attacking the ruling class on the issues of foreign affairs and economic policies when in opposition, the political parties raise hue and cry for appeasing the voters, otherwise they also indulge in same kind of policies when in power.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is pulling strings as it is bent upon entrapping the economies and natural resources of developing and underdeveloped countries of the world by the super power and other developed countries.
East India Company secured a footing on the Indian soil about half a century back and more than seven crore patriotic people had to lay down their lives reportedly, to rid the country of the alien rule by the Britons. The latter could do this only by participating actively in the freedom struggle. A poet summarizes these events as under:
‘Ye hashar bhi dekha hai tareekh ne ahedon ka
Lamhon ne khata ki thi sadiyon ne saza payee’
Bhopal gas tragedy which occurred in 1984 stands as a glaring example where the then administration could not rope in the killers of several innocent lives, who either died or were maimed during the gas leakage from a factory owned by Union Carbide, an American MNC! Even then, as of now, there was no WTO in sight. One wonders in this scenario, how the govt can exert control over multitude of MNC’s and foreign investors?
