| | Vakil speaks after warrant | | | SRINAGAR, Sep 22: Two days after a court in Jammu issued bailable warrant against him, senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil today said he will not be cowed down by suppressive measures. He alleged that chief minister Omar Abdullah has observed silence over the corruption charges against ministers and bureaucrats and also closed a case against his minister Principal sessions judge Jammu issued bailable warrant against Vakil for securing his presence in the court. The warrant was issued in a complaint filed by the state against him for levelling corruption charges against PHE minister Taj Mohi-u-Din. Addressing Congress workers in Budgam today, Vakil said his crusade against corruption will continue. “Nobody can stop me from raising voice against corruption because the menace of corruption is eating into vitals of our society. I will not be cowed down by suppressive measures. My crusade will not stop till guilty is punished,” he said. Vakil alleged that a good chunk of government and private land is grabbed by a sitting minister and his name has is shown as illegal occupant in the records. But still no one is ready to speak or initiate action against the land grabbers. The situation has reached a stage where even party workers have started feeling alienated. The morale of the party workers was still high but it needs to be consolidated so that Congress alone can give people a stable and transparent government. He asked party workers and leaders to strengthen hands of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and spread the programmes and policies of Congress in far off places of the state. Vakil expressed concern over government’s attitude towards corruption and corrupt elements. He alleged that government is denying sanction for prosecution of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats and in some cases the politicians and bureaucrats themselves have sought stay against State Accountability Commission (SAC) orders thereby completely camouflaging their misdeeds. “It was only after the intervention of court that government moved a little bit and gave sanction against one former minister and couple of officials but still chose to remain silent on other cases involving politicians and bureaucrats. The government which had pledged to give people transparent and accountable administration is today on the threshold of collapsing. It was also trying to shield corrupt for keeping their numbers intact,” Congress leader said. |
