Army shielding its men: Victim families’ lawyer
Pathribal fake encounter case
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Sep 22: Muneer Ahmad Shawl, who was the counsel for the Pathribal victim families in civil court, today alleged that army by rejecting the demand to shift the court martial proceedings to Kashmir is trying to shield its men, involved in the fake encounter.
Muneer stated that by rejecting the demand army is not interested in transparency. “There should be no problem in shifting the court martial proceedings from Nagrota to Kashmir,” he said.
The lawyer viewed that giving attention to the demands of the victim families would have been in the interest of justice. “The families were apprehensive about the lack of transparency in the court martial proceedings. Army should have met their demands to remove their apprehensions,” he said.
Muneer added that it is difficult for even a young and literate person to depose in the army court alone. “Since all the witnesses summoned by the army in connection with the case are illiterate, ailing and elderly. They even do not know the charges against the accused army personnel,” he said.
