5 die, 20 injured in two road mishaps

RAJOURI/JAMMU, Sep 22: Five persons including two members of marriage party were killed and twenty others injured in two road mishaps in Rajouri and Ramban districts.
Two members of a marriage party (Baratis) were killed while bridegroom among 20 others injured in a road mishap at Kalar area of Dhangri in Rajouri district, this evening.
Police said that ill-fated minibus bearing registration number JK11-1339 skidded off the road and plunged into the river at Kalar, Dhangri, 20 kilometers away from Rajouri, this evening. The vehicle carrying barat party was on its way from Jhangar to Dhangri. The driver of the vehicle lost control over the vehicle due to over speeding and the vehicle plunged into the river at around 7 PM.
Two baratis died on the spot while twenty others were injured. The minibus took 3-4 turns before landing into the river bed. The baratis travelling in it were seriously injured and some of them were trapped in the mangled minibus.
The local villagers, police and commuters of other vehicles plying on the road immediately rushed to the spot. They launched rescue operation and shifted the injured to the DH Rajouri.
The deceased were identified as Ankush Kumar, son Ashok Kumar of Dhangri and Divya Kumari, daughter of Mahesh Kumar of Rehari.
The injured were shifted to District Hospital Rajouri while the bodies were kept in the hospital mortuary.
The injured were identified as Nitin Kumar (bridegroom), Subash Chander, son of Kali Das, Satpal, son of Babu Ram, Sat Pal, son of Deep Kumar, Been Sharma, Romi Kumari, wife of Kuldeep and Kali Devi, wife of Sat Pal all resident of Jhangar, Limo Devi, wife of Bal KrishanArvind Kumar, son of Sat Pal and Saroop, son of Yogesh Kumar all residents of Paloura, Deepika Kumari, wife of Deepak and Bali Sharma, son of Deep Kumar both residents of Janipur and Sunaina, daughter of Bal Krishan of Rehari.
Some seriously injured were referred to the GMC hospital for advanced treatment.
Police has registered a case and launched a hunt to nab the absconding minibus driver.
In another incident, three persons, including a CRPF jawan and his son, were killed and four others injured when a vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge here in the district, last night.
Official reports said that the mishap occurred last night at Chamalwas in Banihal tehsil. The three persons were killed on the spot, while the injured have been admitted to Emergency Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as CRPF jawan Mohmmad Sharief, his son Raja Rameez and Naib Sarpanch Mohammad Shafi, they said.
The bodies after autopsy were handed over to the family members for last rites.
