Road connectivity essential for socio-economic upliftment: Wani

DODA, June 5: Minister for PWD (R&B) and Mechanical Engineering, Abdul Majid Wani today termed road connectivity an essential part in socio-economic emancipation of people living in far flung and rural areas.

The Minister was addressing a gathering after laying foundation stone for various link roads in Assar and Bhaderwah block.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister said that coalition Government under the stewardship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is committed to improve road connectivity in the region especially in far flung and remote areas so that other allied basic amenities like Education, Medicare, Drinking Water, Power, etc reach to the poor people in a hassle free manner. He said 70-85 percent of population resides in rural areas of the erstwhile District Doda and the Government is making focused efforts for the all round and sustainable development of these pockets.

The people of Assar projected various demands including construction of 8 km Thandapani-Lilote link road, 12 km Kanderi Nallah- Bulandpur link road via Jattar, Thandapani – Goha link road , solar lights in the area, tempo type ambulance for PHC Assar, staff in various government schools, upgradation of schools etc.

The Minister also laid the foundation stone of three roads in Bhaderwah which included 2.85 km Naidangri link road and 2.70 km Shahpora Pranoo to Phingota link road to be constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 2 crore each besides 10.450 km Pranoo- Masri PMGSY road which will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 535.03 lakh.

Enroute Bhaderwah, the Minister met with various deputations and addressed a series of public gatherings at Pranoo, Bhalla, Drudhoo and Seri.

Wani directed the concerned officers to mitigate the grievances of the public on priority basis. He directed the officers to personally monitor the ongoing works in their respective areas and ensure timely and quality completion of the same.

The Minister warned the non-performing officers and officials of disciplinary action. He directed the officers to ensure that all the affected people get benefit of the relief and rehabilitation measures.
